Toy giant Mattel has unveiled its first-ever Barbie doll representing a child with autism, marking a significant step in the brand’s ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion. The new doll features subtle design details that reflect the experiences of autistic individuals.
The Autistic Barbie comes with accessories developed in consultation with autism advocacy groups and therapists, including noise-canceling headphones, a comfort item, and clothing designed with sensory sensitivities in mind.
“We want every child to see themselves reflected in our dolls,” said a Mattel spokesperson. “This Barbie represents millions of children who deserve to feel seen and celebrated.”
